However, the losses of the best teams seemed to be a puzzle to everyone. The players, a prominent figure or a spectator may cause the curses of baseball. It is not like the olden days that they chant spells or perform rituals to summon evil power to cause bad things to happen. Gone are the days of cauldrons and witches. These supernatural hindrances to win a National League or American League or even a World Series were heavily caused by a bitter exchange of words or plainly an act of letting go. Several people were associated to the mishaps occurring in several teams. The following are: 1. Rocky Colavito- Who could forget this handsome baseball player. Everyone loved him for his coolness. Yet he was the alleged reason why Cleveland Indians were not to grab titles from World Series or even the American League. There were traces of the curse year after year but he denied that he never cast one on them. We will never know, however, who would want to trade the leader in homeruns for the …

Louisville is a strong proponent of the stiff handle. Their material says “the last thing you want at the moment of contact is for your bat handle to flex thus the barrel can not. A stiff handle produces more barrel flex, resulting in maximum trampoline effect and greater performance.” The Exogrid is marketed as the premier stiff handle bat in their arsenal because of its design. The Exogrid is a one piece bat with the trademark Louisville stiff handle. What makes (or made) it unique is that metal is trimmed from the handle in a grid pattern to reduce the overall handle weight. The metal is replaced with carbon (a.k.a. composite) inserts that are supposed to be several times stronger and lighter than the metal replaced. This is supposed to increase the handle stiffness (even for a Louisville bat) and strength without increasing the weight. The first question about the Exogrid is what category is this bat in? Is it an alloy or hybrid bat? In my opinion it’s a 100% alloy bat, and that’s …

Sometimes the front foot will also be pointed slightly toward the pitcher. I’ve seen and heard quite a bit of discussion within baseball circles about the positioning of the stance as far as what works and what doesn’t in preparing a hitter. The question I will answer is: Does a particular style of stance give a hitter a better chance at hitting a baseball hard versus the other? The quick answer is no it doesn’t make a difference on how a hitter stands when determining his eventual success in hitting a baseball. Having said that, here are a couple thoughts of caution to pay attention to if you work with a hitter who chooses to stand with an open stance. 1. An open stance will take a little bit more time to move into the preparation or load position when a hitter shifts his weight to his back leg. Because of this extra time, the hitter must make sure his timing is right and he generates movement sooner than he would if he was in a regular stance position (with both feet parallel and fa …

The player’s weight should be evenly distributed on both feet to start. When the player begins the trigger, or start of the swing, some of the weight will then shift to the back leg. These subtle movements were not always clear to me. I learned most of this from watching our team take hitting instruction from a professional instructor. Some people will groan about paying someone to help a youth baseball player learn to hit properly. I must say years ago I was not a believer in hitting lessons. I thought I already knew all about hitting. My child has always been able to hit well, mostly due to natural talent luckily. My child was asked to play in a tournament with a travel team. This team used hitting instruction. As I watched how much it helped my child improve, I wanted to know more. The best baseball swings are usually short and compact with a smooth follow through. Most parents teach their kids to take a long stride. I was guilty of this this. I also let their arms drop down too lo …

There are many t-ball batting drills that players can practice to improve their swinging technique. Young players should practice their batting skills repeatedly in order to get the feel for swinging the bat properly, and also to improve their hand-eye coordination. Improving a Batter’s Swing: The best way to improve a batter’s swing is to practice hitting the ball from the tee into the back stop. Try to pair right-handed coaches with left-handed batters (and left-handed coaches with right-handed batters). Have the coach stand on the opposite side of the tee from the player (as if to mirror the player) in order to show proper stance and swing. This t-ball batting drill gives the batters a good visual reference and the coaches can easily make any necessary corrections. Batting Techniques: If necessary, use baking flour to make a batters box in the dirt. Set the tee even with the batter’s belly button and have them extend their arms fully. Have the player hold this position with arms ex …

Hank Aaron broke the record after 1976 but never the less broke this record was undefeated for a long time. Babe Ruth played for three different teams in his whole career. He played for the longest time with the New York Yankees as an outfielder. His performance drastically soared and the number of home runs he can make can even out score the total performance of a team. When he stands on the plate, everybody expects a home run. He practically led this team to their victories. Without him, the team would be paralyzed. However, Ruth did not play MLB smoothly. He had his own episodes of rebellious acts that caused him suspensions and ejections from the court. Nevertheless, he makes a comeback and every time he finishes a season, he would always perform better. This left-handed baseball phenomenon was one of the players sold out by his previous team. He played as one of the many talented pitchers of the Boston Red Sox. He was sold out because he demanded a raise in salary and they could …

Is there a major ball stadium anywhere in the United States of America barring none which can report there is not one red cent of taxpayer money helping there business. Maybe the working blue collar dude is not paying for the brick and mortar building. Does the city or state provide an incentive rebate or reduced rate of taxation. I’ll provide a little secret the tax break for the head of a blue collar wage earner bellying up to the ticket window is a joke. I would be afraid to ask what it would cost to take junior and sis out to the game if television in the $$millions were not paying to help keep his ticket prices low. Some of our ballplayers are being begged to suit up and play because a signature for one year less than multi-$$ six figures is sneered at. Right now as we go to press there are forces at work to keep low to middle class wage earners and their families away from the ball park. Back in early days of the game of baseball blue collar sporting fans jumped a trolley headed …

There are many fun t-ball drills that players will enjoy while learning and practicing the fundamentals. Catch: Catch is perhaps the most famous and basic of all t-ball drills. It is even used in the major leagues during pre-game warm-ups. Catch is one of the fun t-ball drills that is easiest for children to learn. Catch is the best way to learn the essentials of catching and throwing. Bounce to the Bucket: Bounce to the bucket is a fun t-ball drill that requires a large basket or a cooler, placed on top of a base. Outfielders then try to throw and bounce the ball into the open container. It’s fun to make this game a competition by giving ten points for every ball that goes in, five points for hitting the bucket, and one point for bouncing the ball closest to the bucket. This drill is important because it allows players to practice throwing from the outfield to the bases. Catching Contest: The catching contest is a great drill to practice catching and throwing. Using the cut off man is a simple procedure but strangely fails to end up in much baseball instruction. First, let me share with you the importance of this skill, and secondly, how to teach it. The Importance The importance of using the cut off man is obvious to a baseball outsider if explained correctly. And if it’s obvious to an outsider, the importance should be glaring to those involved in baseball. The problem usually occurs and makes a significant impact on an inning when there is at least one runner on base. For example, say there is a ball hit to right right field with a runner on first base. The right fielder picks up the ball and throws over the second baseman’s head in an attempt to get the runner at third base. Because of the length of the throw, the runner going to third is safe and the batter upon seeing the throw sneaks on to second base. The defense now has to deal with runners on second and third rather than first and third. The problem that could have been prevented …

The handle is composite and the barrel is alloy. Examples of 2009 Hybrid Baseball Bats include: Louisville TPX H2 Easton SV12 Demarini Voodoo Demarini Vendetta Demarini Vexxum Rawlings Rush Gold Lite Nike Aero Fuse (not to be confused with the Aero Fuse CF2) The lighter composite handle allows the alloy barrel to be made longer than a traditional 100% alloy bat. This increases the “sweet spot” compared to an alloy bat and provides more leeway to the batter. In contrast, a 100% composite bat has both a composite handle and barrel making the barrel, and “sweet spot”, even larger. Hybrid bats are a good compromise between spending top dollar on a composite bat or a lower priced alloy bat that doesn’t incorporate the latest technology, or offer advantages to the batter. The cost of a top hybrid bat should be somewhere between a manufacturers top composite and alloy bats. Never pay the same (or about the same) for a top hybrid bat as a top composite bat. If the price is close you should ab …

The left fielder will also be helping out on backups, but the shortstop is the best chance to cut down runner trying to score on an overthrow. For one thing they will be closer to the play. The shortstop usually has a more accurate arm, and is used in making these kinds of throws. Being mentally ready and recognizing runners beginning to steal, gives them that split second jump to get into position to back up the throw. It is the shortstop’s duty to yell loudly as the runner begins to steal. So make sure to have the shortstop hustle over and back up third base, that’s the best chance to nail a runner trying to advance home. When there is a bunt to the left side, the wheel play requires your shortstop to quickly cover third base to take the throw from the pitcher, or catcher to tag or force the runner at third. It is vitally important that the shortstop get the sign to all the players involved, since this is a timing play. Straddling the base in an athletic position, allows the shortst …
